Blood libel re-enacted

Ancient weapon wielded as raging protests continue.

As raging anti-Israel protests continue to be tolerated on London’s streets, there are growing signs that God is breaking through.

Reports tell of smoke bombs and calls for “intifada revolution” by pro-Palestinian marchers at the weekend, and I notice that Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron has rounded on the BBC for its ongoing refusal to describe Hamas as terrorists.

This is hardly a big ask for maniacs who have burnt babies in the oven and shot women dead while raping them.

And yet all British citizens who watch TV are forced to pay a licence fee allowing them to keep spewing out such blatant propaganda.

They are effectively letting antisemites get away with murder and fanning the flames of Jew-hatred in denying the obvious. Shame on them!

But we are not all taken in by their bias, and I am hearing reports of revival from various parts of the UK.

Even in London’s famous Trafalgar Square, thousands turned out to hear evangelist David Chand and a former Muslim testified to the transforming power of Christ in his life – how he had only seen anger, hatred and unforgiveness among his Islamic community, but saw peace when he looked at Christians.

To be fair to the BBC, they did mark Pentecost with two programmes focusing on what is generally regarded on the birth of the church, including dramatic scenes of a beach baptism for new converts.

They did, after all, originally commit themselves to broadcast all that was true, noble, pure and lovely, and whatever was excellent or praiseworthy (see Philippians 4:8), according to the foundation plaque at their headquarters.

So there is clearly a spiritual conflict going on here – even within the BBC – that mirrors the conflagration in the Middle East, which is not over land or nationality, but really about the Lord and, specifically, who is Lord!

Protestors are taking to the streets and university campuses all over the world, not because they care for Palestinians, but to shake their fists at the God of Israel. How dare he regard them as his treasured possession, as the apple of his eye!

Most of them don’t know the history of the conflict, or even where so-called Palestine is, and yet they are effectively calling for a Second Holocaust.

The accusation that Israel is deliberately killing innocent children is a blood libel that originates in this country back in 1144 when Jews were accused of sacrificing Christian children in their feasts.

Yet – uniquely among armies – the IDF use every means of warning Gazan residents of their intentions, giving them every chance of escape. But Hamas intimidate them to stay put so they can dupe the world into believing the Israelis are deliberately killing innocent children.

As former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir said: “We can forgive the Arabs for killing our children. We cannot forgive them for forcing us to kill their children. We will only have peace with the Arabs when they love their children more than they hate us.”

And the politicians don’t help with their relentless calls for a Two-State Solution. This was first tried in 1921 when Churchill handed over a vast piece of land, originally earmarked for the Jews, to the Jordanians. But that didn’t bring peace.

Then there was the UN Partition Plan of 1947, rejected outright by the Arabs. And more recently, in 2005, Ariel Sharon caved in to international pressure by withdrawing from Gaza.

That merely opened the door for Hamas who duly took over the enclave in 2007 and have been firing rockets at their Jewish neighbours ever since. Pray for revelation among politicians and journalists. And Christians too for that matter.

Christians should know that the global warmongering we are witnessing today is a sign that Jesus will soon return. And we are reminded that, whereas the gospel all started with the Jewish people, it will also finish with them.

Having returned to their ancient land after nearly 2,000 years in fulfilment of some 700 biblical prophecies, they are now taking up the baton for spreading the good news of Yeshua – preaching (even to Arabs) with a fervour not seen since the days of Paul the Apostle.

Those with spiritual insight have long seen this coming. Among them is the 19th century ‘Prince of Preachers’ Charles Haddon Spurgeon who, in 1871, even before the modern Zionist movement began, said the following:

“Let the true Christian church think lovingly of the Jew and, with respectful earnestness, tell him the true gospel… And the day shall yet come when the Jews, who were the first apostles to the Gentiles, the first missionaries to us who were afar off, shall be gathered in again. Until that time, the fulness of the church’s glory can never come. Matchless benefits to the world are bound up with the restoration of Israel. Their gathering-in shall be as life from the dead. Jesus the Saviour is the joy of all nations but let not the chosen race be denied their peculiar share of whatever promise Holy Writ has recorded with a special view to them. The woes which their sins brought upon them have fallen thick and heavily; and, even so, let the richest blessings distil upon them.”
