Many good people abroad often think better of Israel than we in Israel do. Not everyone abroad is antisemitic.

In Israel, the media conveys the distorted image that the majority of people in Europe are antisemitic and that Israelis are not particularly welcome there. The reason for this is the numerous protests in European cities against Israel’s ground offensive in the Gaza Strip. From an Israeli perspective, this always looks dangerous. But it is largely Arab or Muslim migrants who often set the tone on the streets in Europe. And it’s important to not that these people do not represent the majority. I know from experience that women in Europe instinctively cringe when they hear Arabic on the street. Our media is also increasingly reporting that the West is accusing Israel of genocide. That scares many people. Not so my daughter Eden. She doesn’t get upset about it and always says: “Not everyone is antisemitic.”

In January, Anat and I felt that we as a family really needed a rest. Buying the plane tickets was a risk because we couldn’t be sure that our three sons and son-in-law would get time off from reserve duty. But...
