Hezbollah fires anti-tank missile at IDF soldiers in Southern Lebanon

Hezbollah has once again attacked Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon with an anti-tank missile and a drone — as Netanyahu warns that the ceasefire may be nearing its end.

The Iran-backed Hezbollah militia fired an anti-tank missile at Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon on Monday. There were no injuries. The IDF responded immediately and destroyed the launch site from which the missile had been fired.

The following day, Hezbollah also launched a drone toward IDF troops in southern Lebanon. The army described the aircraft as a “suspicious aerial target” and initiated interception measures. The drone did not reach Israeli territory. In the border community of Kibbutz Misgav Am in Upper Galilee, sirens were activated “according to protocol” — forcing the roughly 400 residents to seek shelter.

Ceasefire hanging by a thread

The latest incidents are part of a dense series of attacks. On April 26, Hezbollah killed Sergeant Idan Fooks with a drone — the first deadly attack since the beginning of the current pause in fighting. Two days later, two additional soldiers were wounded by explosive drones, one of them seriously. Then, on April 29, 44-year-old civilian worker Amer Hujirat from Shfaram was killed when a drone struck his excavator near Aitaroun. He had been working on behalf of the Defense Ministry to dismantle Hezbollah infrastructure.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu subsequently accused Hezbollah of repeated violations of the ceasefire. At the start of a Cabinet meeting, he said: “Hezbollah’s violations are, in practice, dismantling the ceasefire.” US President Donald Trump announced the ceasefire on April 16 and extended it by another three weeks on April 23.

IDF destroys terror infrastructure

In recent days, troops from the IDF’s 7th Brigade have, in separate operations, eliminated armed Hezbollah fighters who approached Israeli soldiers and posed an immediate threat. In addition, several weapons depots, loaded rocket launch sites and other terror infrastructure were destroyed — including, according to the army, a weapons cache inside a child’s bedroom.

The situation remains tense. In recent days, Hezbollah rockets once again triggered sirens in Upper Galilee. One projectile was intercepted, while another fell in an open area.
