Beijing has discovered the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as a projection screen to systematically divide Western public opinion. Since October 7, the streets of the US have been flooded with waves of anti-Israel protests, most of them antisemitic and violent. A recent report from the University of Washington describes how China, through its networks in the West, deliberately invests in inciting hatred against Israel and Jews. China’s involvement is not driven by solidarity with the Palestinians but pursues the strategic goal of weakening the liberal world order. The means are state-affiliated media, purchased narratives, and activist networks.
Israel is thus degraded to a lightning rod, followed by moral confusion and political disorientation in the West. And the West plays along—blindly, naively, well-meaningly, and directly against Israel. While totalitarian regimes like the Chinese Communist Party and terror organizations like Hamas feed their propaganda into Western universities, NGOs, and digital discourse spaces—possibly coordinated, but in any case strategically—the public opinion becomes a tool of foreign interests.
