
Gamal Hakroush, 59, is heading a new effort by the government to curb rampant crime in the Arab sector. His appointment comes along with the recruitment of hundreds of new policemen, most of them Israeli Arabs.
“To this day, we did not grant the Arab sector equal law enforcement services,” said Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan at the inauguration ceremony. “In everything related to the police, we did not act with due equality.”
