The Israeli army has killed two Hamas commanders in an airstrike in the central Gaza Strip. One of them is said to have been involved in holding numerous Israeli hostages captive at the beginning of the war. The Israeli army announced this on Friday (October 30) on its official website. The strike took place on Thursday in the area of the Nuseirat refugee camp.

The terrorist killed was Ihab Jamil Abu Taqiya, a commander of a terror cell within Hamas’s military wing. According to the army, he was involved in holding several Israelis captive who had been abducted to the Gaza Strip during the Hamas massacre on October 7, 2023.

According to the army, the hostages affected included Noa Argamani, Emily Hand, Ohad Ben Ami, Almog Meir Jan, Andrey Kozlov, Shlomi Ziv, Maxim Herkin, Segev Kalfon and Yosef Haim Ohana. The army also named Raya Rotem, her daughter Hila Rotem Shoshani and Alexander Lobanov. Lobanov was among the six Israeli hostages who were murdered by their captors in a tunnel near Rafah in August 2024.

According to the army, Ibrahim Gihad Muhammad Abu Oshaiba was also killed in the same airstrike. He was a platoon commander in Hamas’s military wing.

Army accuses Hamas of ceasefire violations

The Israeli army stated that both terrorists had been planning attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians during the war and particularly in recent times. They had also been involved in rebuilding Hamas’s military capabilities, thereby systematically violating the existing ceasefire.

The airstrike was carried out to eliminate the threat posed by the two terrorists. According to the army, measures were taken prior to the strike to reduce the risk to uninvolved civilians. These included the use of precision munitions and aerial surveillance of the target area.

According to their own statements, Israeli forces remain deployed in the Gaza Strip within the framework of existing agreements. They would continue to act against immediate threats in the future.

Further Hamas terrorists killed

As early as Wednesday, the Israeli army and the domestic intelligence service Shin Bet killed a total of four Hamas terrorists in two separate strikes in the Khan Yunis and Rafah areas of the southern Gaza Strip.

Among them, according to the army, were a member of Hamas’s elite Nukhba unit and another Hamas commander. The army also accused these terrorists of planning attacks and working to rebuild Hamas’s military infrastructure.

Furthermore, the army reported the destruction of two Hamas weapons depots in the Al-Bureij and Gaza City areas. These were said to have stored anti-tank weapons, explosives, rockets, Kalashnikov rifles, hand grenades and ammunition, among other items.
