Ichilov Hospital, considered one of the best hospitals in Israel, and known internationally, is directed by Professor Roni Gamzo. The hospital decided to perform an unusual study, to see whether patients becoming more aware of their own mental and emotional dynamics, can improve the quality of their treatment.

The person in charge of the research is Professor Tamar Safra, who is the director of the Oncology Department at Ichilov, and has an international reputation in her field.  Safra is of the opinion that mental and emotional dynamics affect the body’s health, and vice-versa. For that reason she initiated a new form of workshops in the hospital among cancer patients. Her goal is to improve patient progress by helping the sick to better know themselves and the reasons for their behaviors, and to help them learn how to take better care of themselves. Through the tools that the patients receive, they learn to recognize for themselves the connection between their illness and other aspects of their lives and personal history.
