Increasingly widespread Arab calls for radical intervention from Israeli police

On August 29, Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai held an emergency meeting for senior police commanders amid escalating domestic violence and crime in the Arab sector, which reached new heights this week with the murder of four Arab civilians at the hands of other Arab citizens within the stretch of a few days.

The meeting was aimed at setting a course of action for ending the anarchy in this sector, the bloodshed, and the loss of human life. It’s important to note that from the beginning of this year until the time of writing, almost 80 Israeli Arabs have been murdered by other Israeli Arabs – 15 in the month of August alone.

So far the police have not been able to bring order to Arab communities. The crime rates are double and even triple those in the Jewish sector. Arab Israeli rioting this past Spring during the short war with Gaza demonstrated that this dangerous situation can easily spill over and affect the entire country. The Arab sector suffers from many years of neglect. Government apportioned budgets have not been sufficient....
