Political tensions are running higher than every in Israel. A great many right-wing voters feel betrayed by the establishment of a left-center-right unity government that even includes an anti-Zionist Muslim party. And this after the last election gave the religious and right-wing bloc a firm majority of over 70 seats in the 120-seat Knesset.
But the desire to oust Benjamin Netanyahu from the Prime Minister’s Office, even for some right-wing parties, overrode everything else.
And that’s got people angry.
One upset citizen expressed himself in very unfortunate terms at a conference for Likud youth on Thursday when he shouted, “Bennett and Lapid need to die!” He was referring to Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, co-leaders of the “government of change.”
The outburst came during Netanyahu’s address to the gathering, and he was not impressed.
“If you have been planted here [as a provocateur] then you’ve done your job,” the former prime minister replied. “If you are not a plant, then you are a fool, and you are wrong. No one is dying. We will defeat them [politically]… I will not accept such talk.”
