Salvation is far more than Israel’s return to its land or the coming of the Messiah. It encompasses the restoration of Israel, the renewal of the human heart, global political upheaval, the recognition of God by the nations, and ultimately, a time of peace and justice for all humankind. Each prophet views this future from a different perspective. Only when we put their voices together does the grand panorama of salvation, Ge’ula (גאולה ), emerge, which the Bible outlines for Israel and the world.
Isaiah: Redemption as the renewal of all humanity
The prophet Isaiah conveys perhaps the most comprehensive and universal vision of salvation. For him, salvation does not end with the deliverance of Israel. Rather, it transforms all of humanity. Jerusalem becomes the spiritual center of the world, and the nations come there to receive God’s instruction:
