“For the past 40 years, the Palestinian leadership has missed opportunities again and again, and rejected all the offers it was given. It’s about time that the Palestinians accept the offers, and agree to come to the negotiating table — or they should shut up and stop complaining,” said Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during a meeting with American Jewish community leaders in April. Saudi Arabia’s future king stressed that the Palestinian question was not at all a priority for Riyadh: “There are much more urgent and more important issues to deal with — such as Iran.”
His American hosts were amazed by the prince’s positive attitude toward Israel. In a subsequent interview, the prince even acknowledged Israel’s right to exist, noting that he foresaw future diplomatic relations with Jerusalem. Similar sentiments have been expressed of late by other Arab (Sunni) governments, as Israeli media has reported on numerous occasions.
