The Washington Post reports that Donald Trump was on the verge of approving a military strike against Iran but then surprisingly backed off. According to the report, the main reason cited is none other than Benjamin Netanyahu: In a phone call, the Israeli Prime Minister reportedly asked Trump to cancel the attack because Israel is “currently not sufficiently prepared” for the Iranian response. Netanyahu allegedly expressed concerns about Israel’s own defense systems and the insufficient US naval presence. Even saying something like that out loud makes no sense.
Since this report has not been confirmed in Israel, suspicion arises: It seems officials in the White House are deliberately leaking information to shift the blame for the canceled strike onto Netanyahu. He is meant to appear as the one who blocked the decisive action against Iran. Whether that’s really true, I don’t know. But at this point, it simply makes no sense.
