Earlier this year, Egypt and the international community tried to prevent Israel from capturing the Philadelphi Corridor (Gaza-Egypt border road), arguing that such an action would lead to a humanitarian catastrophe in Rafah and Khan Yunis. Israel itself hesitated to launch an operation in the southern border region of Gaza due to fear of international pressure. As a result, Israeli security forces only took control of the Philadelphi Corridor eight months after the start of the war in Gaza.
Meanwhile, the number of hostages held by Hamas has dwindled. Just as Abraham bargained with God over the righteous in Sodom, Benjamin (Netanyahu) could, in a biblical sense, negotiate with God for the remaining righteous in Gaza.
After Israel’s failure to rescue the six hostages alive, only managing to bring their bodies home from Gaza, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had to face the people and explain why the Philadelphi Corridor is of such strategic importance that he’s willing to risk the hostages’ lives for it. This situation is tearing the nation apart and making the war even more complicated.
