Old beliefs are shattered, as Israeli seek a new way forward

Israelis have lost confidence in all that they previously held to be true. Their hope and worldview was torn to pieces on Black Shabbat.

Today everyone is wondering what will happen next. Theory, naivety and blind loyalty have run full speed into a wall and destroyed everything that people believed to be right and necessary. Not only among the left, but also among the right, who blindly followed the Israeli head of government and number one security expert, Benjamin Netanyahu. The disappointment can be felt on all sides, everyone has their own explanations for it. A spiritual earthquake that shakes the souls of the citizens and also brings people closer to God.

Israeli journalist Yair Agmon wrote:

“The truth is that I am torn to pieces. My Israeli identity is lost and disintegrated. If someone had spoken to me before October 7th, I would have had a clear idea: enough with the occupation, two states for two peoples, a liberal and democratic state for the Jewish people, with complete equality for all citizens. Before, I knew that I was an Israeli Jew, a Zionist, a leftist who loves all people. I knew what country I wanted to live in and how I wanted to raise my children. I knew what values I would fight for throughout my life.”

Since the barbaric attack, Yair, like many Israelis, has been insecure and deeply torn in his soul. That’s most of us. We are all confused. What we once believed to be absolute has disappeared.

Continued Agmon:

“I’m no longer left-wing or right-wing. I’m nothing, I stutter and I’m scared. I want revenge, but I don’t want innocent people to get hurt. I want to conquer Gaza and rule there with a heavy hand, but at the same time I don’t want to raise children in a violent and bloody country. I have no political vision. I have to re-understand my existence in this country. I need time to draw conclusions from this catastrophe.”

People have lost trust in others. Incidentally, this applies to everyone in the nation, regardless of whether you were someone with a right-wing or left-wing worldview. This is felt very strongly among left-wing Israelis, who have lost their faith in peace with the Palestinians.

“I am ashamed. I’m sorry for participating in the left’s great fraud,” posted famous Israeli chef Meir Adoni, who also runs posh restaurants abroad. He wrote:

“On October seventh, at 6:30 a.m., Meir Adoni passed away. A minute later, a new Meir was born. I have sinned. I was part of the delusion of the left who do not understand that we are surrounded by monsters, Islamists who do not want peace and normality with us. They have only one wish, to burn us alive! I pray that the Creator of the world forgives me. The people of Israel live and exist only thanks to themselves and our strength in our unity. We must destroy the monsters and their helpers. The nation of Israel lives forever and ever. Shabbat Shalom.”

This is only one example. Last week, Israeli actress Gila Almagor also left the radical left-wing human rights organization B’Tselem. In her most recent post, she emphasized that Israelis are not war criminals, as claimed by B’Tselem, which is suing Israel as an apartheid state. “My position has always been and will always be the same – that peace can only be maintained with a partner. On Black Shabbat, Hamas made it clear that it only wanted destruction and terror. I support our wonderful army, our strong nation and wish the immediate return of the hostages.” Gila, at the age of 84, has also woken up to the fact that Israel probably has no true partners for peace. We all want peace, but what good is that if the enemy doesn’t want it?

Like Meir Adoni and Gila Almagor, I know many people around me who are torn and are looking for a new horizon for Israel and for themselves. We have all had reality slap us in the face. No matter who I talk to, everyone has their doubts about what to do next. Ideals we believed in have been shattered. What did Israel do wrong? What did we do wrong? Is there really no way out of this impasse? All the conversations I have had with people, friends and colleagues in the last six weeks, revolve around the trauma in which the people find themselves as they search for new answers for life in the Promised Land.

Only for two of my friends, total left-wing liberals, is the Israeli occupation always to blame for everything, even now in this war. Only Israel is responsible for everything. Our children are all at war. But their two children are not in Gaza. The daughter stayed abroad and the son is not doing reserve service. And both of them are just nagging without understanding that they can only complain safely at the table because other children are defending the country. They have no worries, they only care about the suffering Palestinians. As I said, I reserve my pity for our enemies until we have won the war and our sons are home.

But Israelis on the right have also woken up. Those who blindly followed Netanyahu up until October 7th, like the well-known Israeli singer Lior Narkis. He published sharp criticism of the behavior of our leaders on his Instagram account:

“Shame on you! Babies, girls, soldiers and old people are there for a month. We should all be ashamed, we are all a disgrace! [Defense Minister Yoav] Galant, go home, you and Bibi, whom I have voted for again and again, all my life. I’m sorry, I was wrong. I feel sorry for the people of Israel, for everyone who had to be sacrificed and was betrayed by the state.”

I know many people like Lior who were fanatical Bibi voters and now want nothing to do with the Likud Party or Israel’s longest-serving prime minister. Voters feel betrayed by Bibi, who in their eyes was “Mister Security” until October 7th, but is now seen as responsible for Israel’s greatest failure, even if he has not admitted it to this day.

Just as the left-wing Israelis fantasized about their ideology of peace and coexistence with the Palestinians, the right-wing Bibi voters fantasized about supernatural powers that Bibi did not have. Frustration and disappointment pushes people deeper into depression, but also brings people closer to the center, where both get to know each other again.

This is seen most clearly among the soldiers in the field. During this season, much more than usual, a return to God can be seen on the battlefield, soldiers marching into battle with the Torah. On our Telegram channel we have shown you videos several times in which soldiers praise God and seek His strength in battle.

It’s at least 10 years ago I in a thread somewhere said that the tunnels ought to be gassed, when the terrorists were in them. Ooooh no, I was told that due to ww2 Jews would never do that! Well, I wish you had. . . It is my hope that Israel will now erase Gaza for good, because you should get your old borders back, and who can live with such vile and dangerous people!? It seems to be in their blood, their DNA: that extreme hatred and murderous spirit.
I wish Israel had another leader than Bibi, one that is not so seemingly intent on pleasing the west. But what do I know. . I live far up North in Europe.
Well, I just saw a short video on your telegram app, showing a bunch of tired Israeli soldiers in a home. I feel so bad for them, and I was wondering how is their life, when in combat? Do they get good food? Do they sleep on the ground? How many days and hours are they in the combat zone, before they get a break?

My guess is that the hostages are in Egypt. Were they transported via the ambulances? I don’t think that all hostages are alive, and that’s why they will not let the Red Cross see them. Perhaps Israel should say no to that strange ceasefire angreement and just carpetbomb all of Gaza now? What’s the big deal: if the hostages are alive, they’re 50-70 meters below the surface, or they’re in refugee camps in Egypt.

There is always a price to pay and now it’s being paid. Sad yes, but could it have been avoided? I think not. Too many Israelis live in a fantasy. When you surrounded by snakes you need to be a bigger snake or a big family of snake killers. All the placating to the enemy has got you this, they were always playing for keeps and your leftist were played for fools.
And pray tell me who could have done better than Bibi? I mean really? Who?
Shame on people that are trying to blame him ! Who could have done better? No one i know of. Does no one realize the balancing act he must dance? Israel still needs the west Sadly. One day the west will not be there to help and then all Israel will be in deep shht. Then messiah will be the only one to help. Bo Yeshua Bo!

Blaming individuals never relieves the doubt and confusion. Returning to God and to Torah is the only solution for any of us. Morality cannot be legislated. God spoke it into being and we are called to teach it to our children and children’s children. When we return to Him, He’ll return to us. The Sea didn’t part until Moses obeyed and stretched forth his hand—then God intervened and parted the waters.

  5. 037 says:

May the Almighty God bless and keep Israel.
    In Jesus name.
    Amen.

It’s so sad to read; it’s terrible.

However, I think one Tanakhic prophecy sheds light on it; its complete fulfillment is outstanding.

Since JERUSALEM + ISRAEL often denote JEWRY, we can paraphrase Zechariah 14.2–3 as follows:

“I will gather all the Gentiles against Jewry for war: ISRAEL WILL BE OUTWITTED [Netanyahu’s fault???], the houses plundered, and the women raped; and some will be captured. But the rest of the Jewish population won’t be uprooted… Then Hashem will come forth and make war on those Gentiles.”

There are things we cannot understand. As outlined in Ezek 38, I believe Hashem will permit a full-scale attack of Russia/China, Iran, Turkey/Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen on Israel, – and then rise on behalf of Jewry to take vengeance on the nations. Be that as it may, it will all end well for the Jewish people.

    • Mrs Francia Brader says:

Israel is no man’s land. It is GOD’S; YVHV owns the land of Israel. He gave it to Abraham, (Yitzak, Yakob and his descendants) when He entered into a covenant with him (Genesis 13). And because it is God’s land, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord (Isaiah 54:17)
God has restored the land of Israel for His people (read the books of the prophets Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, etc.) FOR HIS NAME’S SAKE…and HE NEVER FAILS.

Fully agree. It is of course easy for me to cite prophecies from my armchair in Scotland. If I had lost children, parents, or spouses, or saw them taken hostage, I would likely lose my mind. This is the time where many ask, “Where is G-d?”

Yet, I maintain that it is the prelude to Israel’s victory over all her enemies, the coming of the Messiah, and the OLAM HABA.

“My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, declares Hashem. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isa 55:8-9)

Confusion, hopelessness, and tears will vanish, and the bereaved will get their loved ones back.

  8. psalm100al says:

The new way for all Israel is to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, this day should be the day of salvation. I pray!
Unfortunately Israel rejected The Lord Jesus Christ, their Messiah. John. 19/15 But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar. Matt. 27/25. Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be upon us , and on our children.
Those who turn to the Lord Jesus Christ will be saved from God’s wrath and not go through the time of Jacob’s trouble.
