The city of Jerusalem has 70 names. No other city in history has as many names, designations and honorary titles as the Holy City of Jerusalem. This alone reflects the importance of Jerusalem in the biblical past, in different cultures, across generations. This series introduces the Hebrew, biblical names of the City of David.

“For the LORD has called you like a wife deserted and grieved in spirit, like a wife of youth when she is cast off, says your God.” (Isaiah 54:6)
The city of Jerusalem is compared to a woman, as if she were something like God’s first love. Many prophets use the parable of a marriage between a man and a woman to describe God’s relationship with His people Israel. In the face of sin, the people of Israel are characterized as a woman who cheated on her husband, whereupon God’s wrath broke out and He walked away from her. And at the time of redemption the people are described as a woman to whom her husband returns with great joy and love.

To have the One True and Living God as your Redeemer is more wonderful than any words we can find to describe. He has chosen Israel for His Glory
He is the One who has done all the preparation and the work and we are the recipients. In our obedience we see the blessing, in our disobedience He disciplines us so we would see see how much He loves us.
