Passover and Easter coincided this year (as they should, noted one of our columnists) with Jews sitting down to the Passover Seder on Good Friday, the day Jesus was crucified.

This was by no means lost on Israelis, who of late have a rekindled relationship with Jesus (Yeshua in Hebrew).

Yair Netanyahu, the son of former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, felt so strongly about this that he took to Twitter to remind everyone, in English, that Easter is actually a Jewish affair.

“This year Easter and Passover are celebrated on the same day. You might not know it, but the ‘last supper’ was actually the celebration of the Passover Seder by Jesus and his disciples (all of whom were Jewish),” wrote the junior Netanyahu, adding that “in many European languages, the word for ‘Easter’ is similar to ‘Passover,’ for example – Påske in Norwegian. This shows the ancient connection and common root of Easter and Passover and of Judaism and Christianity.”

We couldn’t agree more.

He also took the opportunity to highlight that the New Testament places the Last Supper and all those Jews who attended it on Mount Zion, “the place were the word ‘Zionism’ comes from.”
