Of Course: Arabs Say Israel, US Behind Coronavirus Outbreak

What’s surprising is that it took the Arab press this long to pin the blame on the Jews.

If it can be blamed on the Jews, it will be blamed on the Jews.

Actually, even things that can’t logically be blamed on the Jews by anyone in their right mind are still blamed on the Jews by the Arab press!

The latest assertion infecting a number of Middle East newspapers is that the coronavirus that currently has the world on edge was produced and spread by Israel and the United States.

“A ‘wonder’ virus was discovered yesterday in China; tomorrow it will be discovered in Egypt, but it will not be discovered either today, tomorrow or the day after tomorrow in the US or Israel,” according to the Saudi daily newspaper Al-Watan (translation by MEMRI).

Al-Watan didn’t let the inconvenient fact that America has reported at least 12 confirmed cases of coronavirus get in the way of a good story.

The Arab press went on to claim that all of the big viruses of the past few decades were created and spread by the United States, sometimes with the help of Israel.

“From Ebola, Zika, SARS, avian flu and swine flu, through anthrax and mad cow disease to the corona[virus] – [all these] deadly viruses were manufactured by the US and threaten to annihilate the peoples of the world,” according to the Syrian newspaper Al-Thawra.

A legacy of wild claims

While much of the Arab world has been warming to Israel of late, decades of anti-Jewish propaganda cannot be overcome so quickly. It would take generations for the Arab world to stop believing and spreading their ridiculous claims about Israel and the Jews.

Previous examples of this absurdity include:

  • Saudi Arabia’s capture and presumed execution of a vulture accused of spying for Israel after a tracking device from the Veterinary Department of Tel Aviv University was found on the animal;
  • A Jordanian reporter claiming that Israel was creating earthquakes, even as he ignored the fact that Israel sits on a major fault line;
  • Hamas saying that it captured a dolphin on an espionage mission for the Jewish state.
