In a region where morality is a luxury and survival is a daily battle, different laws apply. To understand why Christians, Druze, and even Jews often cling to the most dangerous powers, one must shed Western idealism and immerse oneself in the reality of minorities—where the enemy of my enemy is often the only savior.

In Baghdad, an honorary plaque was unveiled dedicated to two Shiite terror architects of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard who were killed by the US in 2020. Christian communities in Iraq venerate the two terrorists. For them, Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis were the men who “freed their country from Sunni ISIS terror.” And indeed, they played a central military role in the fight against the ISIS caliphate.
