The Bank of Israel will issue a special edition 5 shekel coin designed to commemorate the tireless efforts of Israeli medical professionals in combatting the COVID-19 pandemic.
The coin features the image of a masked doctor holding the hands of an Israeli citizen, along with the words “With Gratitude” in Hebrew, Arabic and English.
First responders and doctors have been the heroes of the past 18 months, working tirelessly as the world dealt with waves of COVID-19.

Several million copies of the coin will be produced and introduced into circulation.
Meanwhile, Israel remains concerned over the possibility of a fourth wave of coronavirus infections as the daily number of those infected with the “Delta” variant climbs into the hundreds.
Over the past week, Israel has registered around 300 new COVID-19 infections every day. Officials warn that if measures are not quickly taken, then within two weeks the rate of new daily infections could number over 1,000.
At the same time, the number of Israelis hospitalized with COVID-19 has not risen dramatically, suggesting that the vaccine is helping Israel to effectively handle the Delta variant.
