The White House is pushing full force for a hostage deal that could shift the balance of power in the Middle East and put Israel in a bind.

It’s Donald Trump himself dictating the terms: a 60-day ceasefire, direct humanitarian aid for the Gaza Strip, and, in effect, for Hamas. Benjamin Netanyahu is in a tough spot. Without American backing, he’s on shaky political ground. As things stand, this hostage deal might not spell the end of Hamas but could ensure its survival, perhaps in exile—though that remains to be seen. While Trump demonstrates strength, Netanyahu faces pressure both domestically and internationally. Is this deal the beginning of the end for Hamas—or its last lifeline?

What’s emerging is a comprehensive hostage deal, tailor-made in Washington and likely nearing final agreement just in time for Netanyahu’s visit to the White House. Trump is repositioning the United States as a central force in Middle Eastern affairs, in his typical fashion: with a deal, a signature, and tangible results. The path to this point was anything but easy, but so far, he seems to be succeeding.
