In this episode, Israel Today’s Ryan Jones examines why more Israelis are beginning to view Turkey under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as a serious long-term threat.
The concern is not that Israel is unaware of the danger. The deeper problem is that Israel is exhausted after the longest continuous war in its modern history. Built for short, decisive conflicts, Israel is now stretched by Gaza, Lebanon, Iran, internal political strain, economic pressure and the prolonged burden on reservists and their families.
Meanwhile, Turkey is playing a longer game. Erdogan’s government has become increasingly hostile toward Israel. Turkey does not need an immediate military confrontation to become dangerous. Its threat lies in what it is building quietly while Israel is forced to manage too many fronts at once.
The episode also highlights a growing gap between Israeli and Western perceptions. While Israelis increasingly see Erdogan as a problem, Washington and NATO continue to treat Turkey as an indispensable ally.
