It was a stunning scene for most Israelis on Monday when an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Honor Guard welcomed the first ambassador from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to the President’s Residence in Jerusalem.
The IDF band can be heard in the clip below playing the UAE national anthem as Ambassador Mohamed Mahmoud Al Khaja makes his way inside to present his credentials to Israel President Reuven Rivlin.
As part of his official remarks, Ambassador Al Khaja said:
“The Abraham Accords Peace Agreement will remain a beacon in human history for all advocates of peace, as it has created a new reality. Both countries today share a goal of establishing peace and security in the region and instilling optimism and hope among our peoples.”
Ambassador Al Khaja is expected to be a very active envoy, further evidence that the UAE takes very seriously its new relationship with Israel, and that the Abraham Accords are a genuine peace.
The following i24 News report gives a little more of a look into the new ambassador and how he will relate to Israel on behalf of the UAE.
