The people of Israel will only win Jerusalem if they live in true unity. Without unity, there is no Jerusalem either.

It is the disunity of Israel that makes it impossible to fully control Jerusalem.

“Guardian of the Walls” was the name of Israel’s recent operation against the radical Hamas regime in the Gaza Strip. Earlier this month, Israel found itself in an emergency situation. Rioting had broken out in Jerusalem, and then spread throughout the country, culminating in missile attacks from the Gaza Strip. Once again, the trigger was Jerusalem. On the Temple Mount, during Ramadan prayers, the Muslims were calling on Hamas military leader Mohammed Deif to fire missiles at Tel Aviv.

The Israeli government chose a term from the Bible to label the operation because the terrorist missiles were first fired on Jerusalem Day, the commemoration of the reunification of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. But what do the prophets mean by this expression? What was the role of the guardians or watchmen on the walls of Jerusalem at that time, and what significance does this have today?
