Israel’s Civil Service Commission determined on Sunday that public servants can be fired or reassigned if they refuse to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or to submit to weekly virus tests.
The Civil Service Commission oversees the employment of all government and public sector employees in Israel.
According to the report on Israel’s Ynet news portal, the decision was taken in order to “ensure the continued operation of government ministries.”
If a public servant refuses to show his or her vaccination certificate (“Green Passport”) or submit to weekly tests, they can either be fired, reassigned to a role that puts them in direct contact with fewer people, or sent to work from home with reduced benefits.
With most of the adult population in Israel already inoculated, the Jewish state finds itself at the tail end of the Corona crisis, and is wary of facilitating another outbreak.
