Israel’s Ambassador to the Vatican, Oren David, and Philatelic Service Director Elhanan Shapira gifted Pope Francis the joint stamp issued by the Israel Postal Service to mark twenty-five years of diplomatic relations between the Jewish state and the Holy See.

The Pope welcomed expressed his satisfaction over the stamp depicting the Church of St. Peter and the ancient synagogue in Capernaum, symbolizing the special relationship and interplay between the two religions. Ambassador David invited the Pope to visit Capernaum as part of a visit to Israel that will include the Galilee and other areas of the country, following the Pope’s last visit to Jerusalem in May 2014.
